ATTEMPT DEFEAT OF A MEDECO LOCK CYLINDER AND SUBSEQUENT BURGLARY!

Published April 15, 2024

Sunday I received a received phone call from a distraught business owner of a high end liquor & cigar shop.

Upon discovering the burglary, he saw my company secured the Jewelry store next door and placed a phone call to Jade Alarm. I immediately responded to his store.

Arriving, I was handed the Medeco lock cylinder and told this is how the burglars got in.

They had cut the phone lines, defeating the alarm system and the video camera system had been out of service at the time of the thieves attacking the business.

Several tens of thousands of dollars in high end liquor and cigars now were missing. The insurance company was now having to be notified and normal business was interrupted.

I explained to the owner to closely examine the Medeco lock cylinder as the lock had NOT been defeated, the anti-drill pins Medeco is famous for had done their job! This was a ruse— a ‘red herring’! In my opinion the door had been unlocked with a Medeco key and THEN the thieves drilled the lock—in attempt to throw any investigation ‘off’ and in a different direction. Ownership needs to look at anyone who had been issued a non-duplicable Medeco key!

Jade Alarm Co. was honored to add the business to the list of satisfied and valued customers!
I then explained our service includes:

*Open/Closing Supervision with reports sent to management indicating the system is armed and disarmed at proper times and to determine when the alarm system is armed to ensure non-management/authorized personnel from entering in the middle of the night or non-authorized times.

*Recommendation of proper physical security—such as Medeco non-duplicable keys & high security locks.

*Video Surveillance system that has a ‘health check’ once per shift by our Central Station Dispatchers and a service ticket is generated if a good video picture is not viewed.

*Full ’round the clock service by our technicians—with no extra ‘after hour’ trip charge (others charging
upwards of $1,500 for after hours or weekends/holiday service charge).

*SecureNet radio to ensure monitoring despite phone line/internet interruptions cutting or cell jamming!

*Extended backup battery power in the event the power is disconnected—a favorite scheme these days!
